Tomaž Deželan je profesor politologije na Univerzi v Ljubljani. Raziskovalno pot je nadaljeval na različnih raziskovalnih ustanovah v tujini (npr. U Edinburgh, U Tallinn) in je nosilec naslova Jean Monnet katedra za državljansko vzgojo. Je član skupine evropskih raziskovalcev na področju mladine v okviru Partnerstva za mlade (Svet Evrope in Evropska komisija) in deluje kot strokovnjak na področju mladine, politične participacije, zaposljivosti in izboljšanja/zagotavljanja kakovosti v izobraževanju. Je koordinator doktorskega študijskega programa Ameriške študije na Fakulteti za družbene vede Univerze v Ljubljani. Na omenjenih področjih je koordiniral več kot 30 raziskovalnih in aplikativnih projektov v vrednosti več milijonov evrov ter sodeloval s številnimi mednarodnimi vladnimi in nevladnimi organizacijami in pobudami (OVSE ODIHR, OVSE, Evropski mladinski forum, Peace Nexus, International IDEA, Social Progress Imperative, Svet Evrope, Evropska komisija, Evropski parlament, EACEA, ICF, WYG Consulting in druge) ter vladami (Slovenija, Hrvaška, Češka, Latvija, Črna gora). Prof. Deželan je bil eden ključnih strokovnjakov slovenskega predsedovanja EU na področju mladine in soavtor sprejetih sklepov Sveta. Je avtor ali soavtor več kot 30 recenziranih znanstvenih člankov v revijah, 25 poglavij v urejenih zbornikih, 10 znanstvenih monografij in urednik več urejenih zbornikov in posebnih številk revij (ISI ranking) ter avtor več političnih, pozicijskih in zagovorniških dokumentov za različne organizacije (OVSE, International IDEA, EYF).
