International Conference on Internal Quality Assurance Systems in Higher Education – SMEQA

On Friday, October 3, 2025, a conference entitled "Development of Internal Quality Assurance Systems and Evaluation Principles" was held at the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo. The conference was organized as part of the SMEQA project – Strengthening Capacities and Mechanisms for Enhancement of Quality Assurance System in Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference brought together representatives of universities, ministries, quality assurance agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and partner universities from Split and Ljubljana with the aim of exchanging experiences and good practices in the field of internal quality assurance in higher education.

The event began with introductory speeches by representatives of the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) and the SMEQA project, followed by lectures and presentations by experts:

  • Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić presented various models of internal quality assurance systems.
  • Representatives of the University of Split and the University of Ljubljana shared methodological approaches and good practices established at their institutions.
  • Monija Malešević presented a report on self-evaluation, its content, and statistical data.
  • Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković and Prof. Dr. Majda Čohodar-Husić presented an analysis of existing models of internal quality assurance and evaluation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the final part, the participants in the WP3 working group discussed recommendations for improving internal quality assurance systems and evaluation processes in BiH. The event ended with a summary and closing remarks by representatives of the University of Sarajevo.

The conference is an important step in strengthening institutional capacities and exchanging good practices among universities in the region, with the aim of further developing a comprehensive quality assurance system in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
