On Monday, 15 April 2024, the presentation of the handbook "Work-based Learning (WBL) in Higher Education" took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana. The handbook aims to improve the quality of WBL and practical training for university students, for all current and future mentors of WBL for university teachers and mentors in organisations, companies and institutions where WBL is offered. It is useful for all students undertaking WBL at home and abroad and for professionals involved in the supervision of WBL.
The authors of the handbook, Prof. Dr Monika Govekar Okoliš from the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr Ivan Svetlik and Prof. Dr Tomaž Deželan from the Faculty of Social Sciences, presented how the work can be used as a tool for the implementation of WBL in Higher Education.
Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik presented the planning of WBL in the changing situation of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Monika Govekar Okoliš presented the results of a qualitative study of WBL mentoring programmes at the University of Ljubljana with comparison and suggestions, prof. dr. Tomaž Deželan presented four cases of WBL that took place in the digital environment in the academic year 2020/2021 at University of Ljubljana and which are part of the research conducted within the Erasmus+ funded eWBL consortium eWBL eWBL- Making work-based learning work in an online environment! ".
The diverse representation of participants from the University of Primorska, the University of Maribor, the University of Nova Gorica and the University of Ljubljana showed the need for such discussions, exchange of practises and systemic regulations in some areas. At the national level (1) the elaboration of regulations for the provision of WBL in WBL provider organisations and (2) the regulation of the remuneration and payment of external mentors in all disciplines. At the university level, these include creating a common platform for WBL, implementing continuous professional education and training, regulating the remuneration and payment of mentors, and reducing the overstaffing of university mentors in faculties that manage students' WBL.
